The weather was perfect and I drove my car, and at GC's suggestion kept his heroin in my jacket so I could mete out his doses and keep him steady throughout the 4 day trip. We stayed as guests of Carroll Terrell of Northern Lights Press–who had just re-issued the poems of Louis Ginsberg with an introduction by son Allen, and had committed to a 1000 copy reprint of Peter Orlovsky's book Clean Asshole Poems– in adjoining rooms at the now-deserted Oronoka Motel. We took meals in their fabulous dining room; that is I ate free-range beef and drank wine while Gregory had endless vodkas and coke. The first full day Gregory did a reading at the high school which was fabulous, and I still have the cassette tape I made. How Gregory made this next connection I'll never know, but he insisted afterwards we sell his stash of dope to a cook in the school cafeteria. I made the deal getting 4x the New York street price which the bearded chef happily paid, but we were now put of dope. I held onto the cash but did buy Gregory a bunch of scratch-off lottery tickets. I figured by the next day Gregory would start to lose focus so I called home and had a friend fed ex a bundle of medicine to Northern Lights which did not arrive until the next afternoon as we prepared to go the the University to do an evening reading. Gregory spiked up in my Cadillac right before he went on, and he was in excellent form save for the runny nose. The next day we relaxed and drove to Portland for a reading at a bookstore, stayed in a nearby hotel and returned to NY the next day. Gregory got cash for the bookstore event, and a $2000 check from the University which I deposited and promised to hold for him and distribute as needed. Each of the next 4 days poor Gregory had me withdraw $500 until the $2000 was in his hands, after which he disappeared to Atlantc City for an overnight trip.Bookstreethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07225752610418867074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11634524.post-1155663744015008782006-08-15T10:42:00.000-07:002006-08-15T10:42:00.000-07:00One night Gregory shot up in our loft on Canal Str...One night Gregory shot up in our loft on Canal Street, and Erika motioned me into the bedroom, and said, "I can't stand that stuff; get him out of here!" So I phoned the art historian Diane Radycki and the three of us had dinner and drank way too much and Gregory and I slept on Diane's floor. The next morning I had a terrible hangover. On the subway downtown Gregory said, "You can say all the mean things you want about heroin, but I have never felt as bad as you obviously do right now." I began to avoid him.Michael Andrehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09041946940083486881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11634524.post-1150481184221850692006-06-16T11:06:00.000-07:002006-06-16T11:06:00.000-07:00How did Richard Rogers die? He sounded ok, but was actually high on something he said. He told me that Gregory got off on heroin right into his last weeks, but it still didn't make him feel any better.Kirby Olsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05952289700191142943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11634524.post-1150059052545066382006-06-11T13:50:00.000-07:002006-06-11T13:50:00.000-07:00hi Michael,I'm working on, for U Cal, a volume of ...hi Michael,

I'm working on, for U Cal, a volume of Selected Letters of Robert Creeley-- curious if you have anything?
