Mardi Gras

Vows turn quickly useless in the event. The worst habits remain unbroken. Sometimes, however, for myself, Lenten resolutions hold their value for an entire 40 days. That itself is a left-over habit from my Catholic boyhood. New Year’s Eve resolutions, by contrast, are usually good until noon New Year’s Day. Easter thus becomes my day of disavowal, but, who cares? It’ll be spring.

I've given up on resolutions entirely. If anything, it's better to take on a vice or two knowing you won't see them through. Giving them up makes you feel like you've really accomplished something.

I'm interesting in submitting poems for Unmuzzled OX -- are you putting another one together? Can I e-mail you?
